Easter Procession in Sorrento

Among the oldest and most suggestive events of Sorrento Peninsula, there are, for their character of deep religious piety and extraordinary local folklore, the traditional Good Friday processions.

From Thursday evening to Friday night before Easter, about fifteen processions wind through the streets of the Coast, from Vico Equense to Massa Lubrense to recall the mystery of the Passion and death of Christ.

The two most famous processions are definitely those of Sorrento: a ritual that has been repeated since the early 1800s, echoes of a far more ancient ritual that dates back at least to 1500.

At three am, between Thursday and Good Friday, Sorrento awakens to revive the search for Maria in the night of passion, commemorating the mother wandering the streets in search of her son sentenced to death.

A unique spectacle in which you can not remain indifferent whether you are believers or not.
