Palm Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday before Easter Sunday. It marks the beginning of Holy Week, but not the end of Lent. During this festival all the faithful gather to attend the Sunday liturgy in an open space as the priest blesses the olive branches with holy water during the celebration.
According to tradition, the faithful bring home the olive and palm branches blessed as a symbol of peace, sharing with loved ones. Also during the Easter lunch head is usually bless the table with a sprig of olive blessed. In many parts of Italy the palm branches are twisted to make the packaging addobate. In Sorrento, the legend which has since become tradition, the palms are made of paper flowers and candy.
